Elections[edit]
Elections to the urban local bodies in Uttarakhand are held once in five years, are conducted by Uttarakhand State Election Commission. Both direct and indirect elections apply for the urban local bodies.[1] Direct election posts include:
- Municipal Corporation: Mayor and Corporators
- Municipal Council: Chairperson and Ward Members
- Nagar Panchayat: Chairperson and Ward Members
Indirect election posts include:
- Municipal Corporation: Deputy Mayor
- Municipal Council: Deputy Chairperson
- Nagar Panchayat: Deputy Chairperson
Various statutory/standing committees are also elected by the way of indirect elections.
The cantonment boards consists of eight elected members, three nominated military members, three ex-officio members (station commander, garrison engineer and senior executive medical officer), and one representative of the district magistrate.
