Kamal Khetan is an Indian businessperson based in Mumbai, India, who is the chairman & MD of Sunteck Realty Limited, a company engaged in real estate business.[2][3][4][5] In 2009, Khetan was ranked #91st in the list of Forbes's India's Richest People.[1][6] He is the Honorary Consul of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in India.[7] He was noted by Entrepreneur magazine as their 'Entrepreneur of the Year' for 2020.[8]

Career[edit]

Kamal Khetan has done his graduation in Electronics and communication engineering from Mangalore University. Kamal Khetan founded the real estate and construction company Sunteck Realty Limited, where he is currently serving as the chairman and MD of the company. Before starting his own real estate company in 1999, Khetan worked in his family's construction business. In 2000, Sunteck Realty started as an office-leasing venture and purchased land for large-scale residential development in 2006.[2][3]

He joined hands with Ajay Piramal of Piramal Group as co-investor and purchased 4 acres in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai for residential use in 2006, when other players in the market were focused on commercial. He also bought 23 acres in Goregaon, Mumbai and started residential projects in the Mumbai suburbs of Airoli and Borivali. Khetan signed joint development agreements, both residential and commercial projects in Nagpur (Maharashtra), Goa, and Jaipur (Rajasthan).[2] He made the company Sunteck Realty, as one of the fastest-growing luxury developers in less than a decade and thus getting Sunteck Realty listed on NSE and BSE.[2][3][9]

He is also appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for Mumbai.[7][10] Khetan is on the Council of Governor's board of Asia Pacific Real Estate Association (APREA).[11]

Awards and honour[edit]

  • In 2020, he was honoured with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Real estate category, by Entrepreneur India.[8][12]
  • In 2015, Kamal Khetan was selected as the 'Real Estate Person of the Year' and 'Young Entrepreneur of the Year' at the Construction Week India Awards by ITP Business Publishing.[13]
  • Khetan was awarded the Pathfinders Award for the Most Enterprising CXO' & Scroll of Honour in 2015.[14]
  • In 2014, he was awarded the Lokmat's Young Achievers Award at the National Award for Excellence in Real Estate Infrastructure by Lokmat.[15]
  • He was ranked #91st in the list of Forbes's India's Richest People in 2009.[1]
