Joyashree Roy (born 1 October 1957)[1] is an Indian[2] economist, energy, and climate scientist. She appointed to the newly established Bangabandhu Chair at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in 2018.[3]

Life[edit]

Roy earned a doctorate degree from Jadavpur University.[3] She was an Indian Council of Social Sciences Research fellow and a Ford Foundation postdoctoral fellow at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.[3] At Jadavpur University, she worked in the department of economics.[3]

The Bangabandhu Chair in Sustainable Energy was officially inaugurated on March 15, 2018 following the signing of a letter of intent between the Asian Institute of Technology and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Bangladesh.[4]

Work[edit]

Roy's takes a holistic approach to sustainable energy research, as she links is to policy making, and has stressed the global and multi-sector nature of the climate crisis.

Roy is one of the authors of the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report (2007),[5] a panel which won the Nobel Peace Prize.[4] She is also one of the authors of the IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5 °C (2018).[2]
